Simon Highbarger was an early settler on the west edge of Goodrich Prairie in Colon Township, St. Joseph County, Michigan. He bought the northwest quarter of Section 4 at the White Pigeon land office. He served in Henry Power's Company in the militia during the Black Hawk war, serving from May 21 to June 21, 1832, as did many others in that company.

According to the land patent certificate, he was from Westmorland County, Pennsylvania -- a county where other Westmorlands continued to live for several decades, according to census records.

He may not have lived in Michigan for a long time. His name is not recorded in any of the federal census records for Michigan. There is no information about him in any of the St. Joseph County histories.
