James M Fellows

  • Militia service: 4SG in Harrison's company, service dates May 21-Jun 21. (Barnett, 2003)
  • Purchased land in Charleston Township, Section 36, E1/2 of NW. White Pigeon land office
  • Middle name is Madison (from land patent certificate)
  • Came to Michigan in fall 1828 or early 1829 (affadavit while he was a resident of Minnesota, Kalamazoo-1880, page 442). The affadavit is signed by himself, Worlender Fellows, and John Kelly, of Goodhue and Wabasha Counties, MN. Kalamazoo-1880 actually says Goodman county, but this is probably a mistake in transcription.
  • Made four land entries in Michigan, two in Kalamazoo County and two in Calhoun.
  • The earlier of the two Kalamazoo entries was made at the Monroe land office. It was for NE quarter of section 2 in Prairie Ronde township. This is adjacent to Bazel Harrison's quarter section [check this].
  • The two Calhoun county entries were made later, at the Bronson and Kalamazoo land offices
  • There is a reference to Fellows' wife (apparently) in kalamazoo-1880, page 439. She if referred to as Mrs. James Fellows, the daughter of Bazel Harrison, and having lived in Minnesota 20 years. She "recently" returned and is now living in Texas township.
  • Was a resident taxpayer in Prairie Ronde township in 1838 (kalamazoo-1880, page 448)
  • Served as Prairie Ronde township treasurer in 1848 (kalamazoo-1880, page 449)
  • His name is on a petition to Bazel Harrison asking for a road to be laid out. It seems that 19th and 11th streets in Prairie Township follow the requested route closely, though not exactly. [needs more careful study]
