Jackson's Company
From Black Hawk Slept Here
Le Roy Barnett lists two companies that were captained by a man surnamed Jackson.
The first is identified as "Charles Jackson, Cavalry (Detroit)" under Colonel Almanson Huston, commanding, of Niles. It was part of the "7th Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Division (Berrien and Cass Counties)" This company had 25 men. (Barnett-2003, page 160)
The second is identified as "Andrew Jackson, Mounted (Flowerfield)" which was part of the "11th Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Division (St. Joseph County)", "Colonel Hart L. Stewart, commanding (Mottville)". This company was a smaller one, with six men. (Barnett-2003, page 161)
My own tally from Barnett's lists shows 25 individual men, total, who were in the military unit called "Jackson's Company". I haven't yet determined how that number should be reconciled with the 25 plus six listed in the above two paragraphs.
