Amishville USA (ride report, July 2007)
From Black Hawk Slept Here
Just before the 4th of July holiday, I did four days of bike rides from a base camp at the Amishland campground near Geneva, Indiana.
- Murray, Indiana (ride report, June 30, 2007) -- Allen Norcross and other early settlers had fled this area during the Black Hawk war.
- Fort Recovery and 1809 Treaty Line (ride report, July 1, 2007) -- A 70-mile ride to the south end of Randolph County, following the line of the 1809 Treaty of Fort Wayne.
- Decatur, Indiana (ride report, July 2, 2007) -- The first part the day was spent at the library in Bluffton, where I looked for more information on Allen Norcross and the early settlers (and had a successful wild goose chase in the newspaper archives, too). Then I did a 36 mile ride that took me from Murray to Decatur and then back to the campground.
- Auglaize County, Ohio (ride report, July 3, 2007) -- A 77 mile ride to the far end of Auglaize County, Ohio, to a point where the land of the rectangular survey system butts up against the Virginia Military Tract.
